WW2 Home Front 'London Transport' Spotters Helmet 1940. Scarce helmet of the London Transport Route Spotters who were responsible for redirecting LT vehicles when their traditional routes were impassable due to Air raid damage . Designed to be highly visible in bad light the white bas of the helmet has been overpainted with the black grid like scheme for these personnel. Helmet is a Mk II No2.C with three holes either side & its first grey paint finish still visible to the interior dome of the helmet. Marked to underside of rim with maker 'BMB' & date 1940. 1940 date to liner cradle also. Chinstrap heavily worn but remains.
