1st Battalion Ox & Bucks , 53rd Welsh Inf.Division Officer Battledress - Landed Normandy June 1944. Officers tailored battledress with Lieutenant rank pips to shoulders & printed formation patches of the 53rd Welsh Inf division to each arm. Has distinctive regimental collar distinction of 'gimp' cord & the rare Oxfordshire & Buckinghamshire buttons to each lapel. Interior has clothing label reading ' Battledress, Blouses ,1940 Pattern Size 9 Ulidia Clothing Co Ltd Belfast'. This combination of insignia indicates the 1st Battalion of the Ox & Bucks Light Infantry who joined the 71st Infantry brigade of the 53rd Division in October 1943 to train for the invasion of Normandy.
The battalion remained with the 53rd for the rest of the war . Landed Normandy 24th June 1944 , took up positions around the Odon bridgehead where it was subjected to enemy shellfire. Captured the village of Cahier near Caen sustaining significant casualties fighting then in the second battle of the Odon. Took part in operation Totalize the advance towards Falaise , entered Belgium early September.
