D-Day Operation Overlord Interest North Staffs Officer Helmet - Attached G-3 Division Supreme Headquarters (SHAEF) Involved In Operation Overlord Planning. A MkII steel helmet with decal of the North Staffordshire Regiment & name scratched into underside of rim 'MOLLOY' with service number. . Maurice Dermot Molloy was a Lieutenant Colonel in the North Staffs regiment appointed to G-3 Division of Supreme Headquarters Allied Expeditionary Force ( SHAEF) who were the central operational hub for the invasion of Normandy , Operation Overlord & subsequent campaigns. The name of the officer is very faintly visible to the underside of the rim along with his service number. Helmet has Maker mark & date 'JSS 1940' ( Joseph Sankey ) . 1938 dated liner cradle with a thick textured khaki paint finish applied over its smooth factory finish. Minimal wear due to this officer being in a planning role albeit vital to the Invasion Of NW Europe. Included is the copy of a printed memo from the Public Record Office issued by Lieutenant-General HM Gale Chief Administrative officer at SHAEF headquarters in relation to S/Lieut Col 16360 MOLLOY, Maurice Dermot N.Staffs which reads ' Lieut.Col MOLLOY has performed outstanding service in the execution of his duties with the Operatiosn Section , G-s Division of Supreme Headquarters during the period of seven months in which he has held this appointment. He has distinguished himself by the unflagging energy , devotion to duty , great enthusiasm & efficiency which he has displayed during this arduous period. he has made a very positive contribution to the succesful execution of the Operations in North-West EUROPE.
