Cavalry Officers Bullet Damaged Ration Box this part of the cavalry equipment as purchased by officers to be hung from the saddle . A silver 'J.Dixon & Sons' marked food container within the left compartment exhibits a bullet entry & exit strike this having first penetrated through the leather case before passing through & exiting at side. The top section of a small glass bottle remains in the right pouch , the bottom part having been shot away. To outside of case is a paper label reading ' A Near One Presented by Major J Darley August 1914' .
